Wilmington to Appoint City's 1st Poet Laureate

Wilmington officials are preparing to name the city's first poet laureate.

Councilman Nnamdi Chuluocha tells WDEL Radio that it will be a prominent position to help the city promote arts and literature. He says the arts can elevate the lives of city residents.

The City Council approved the action at its last session. A poet laureate is expected to be named by spring 2014.

A search committee will identify potential candidates for the position. The panel will include academics, citizens and appointees named by the mayor and City Council.
