Police in Wilmington arrested a local man after he allegedly robbed a 69-year-old woman outside a shopping center Friday afternoon.
Investigators say that Charles Zingo, 49, approached the woman in the parking lot of the Kmart store in the Pike Creek Shopping Center, grabbed her purse and was able to wrestle it away from her after a short struggle.
Zingo fled the scene, but was later observed by an officer emerging from a wooden area onto Skyline Drive not far from the shopping center. Zingo tried to drive away from the area, but was stopped by police and taken into custody without incident.
Zingo was charged with one count of first degree robbery and was remanded to the Young Correctional Institution to await a hearing.
