Wig-Wearing Robbers Pistol Whip and Tie Up Jewelry Store Workers

Owner is shaken but determined not to let violence change him or his family's business

Victor Ostroff returned the very next day to the place where he and his loyal employee were robbed at gunpoint, pistol-whipped and tied up.

"Anytime you have a violent crime, it's a shock," Ostroff said. "As much as you think you're prepared, you just can't be on guard every two seconds."

It was Tuesday when two wig-wearing men came into his jewelry store on Main Street in Manayunk and stole $100,000 worth of goods, terrorizing Ostroff and a woman who'd worked with him for 13 years.

"She kept her cool. She was able to call 911. There were a lot of parts of what she was able to do in the moment that you wouldn't expect and I'm just very, very proud of her," Ostroff said.

The robbers made off with some surveillance tape, but left their getaway car behind with one of the suspect's wallet and most of the jewelry inside. The FBI is working with Philly police on the case.

Ostroff's store has been in the family for nearly 100 years and although he's still shaken, he didn't think twice about returning to work.

"I won't change what we are. I mean this is who we are and this is what the family has instilled in me and that part will not change."

On the upside, Ostroff has heard this week from people he hasn't talked to in thirty years. "They're just calling, stopping in, making sure I'm okay."
