Wife Killer Learns Fate for ‘Extreme Indifference to Human Life'

A Montgomery County husband is heading to prison after admitting to stabbing his wife to death three years ago as their young daughters slept upstairs.

Thirty-nine-year-old Walid Mitwalli was sentenced Monday to up to 40 years behind bars in the slaying of his wife, Mona. He will be eligible for parole after 15 years.

Authorities say Mitwalli stabbed his wife multiple times with a 14-inch carving knife in their Hatfield home in June 2013. He pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the case.

Defense attorney John McMahon Jr. had argued that Mitwalli's wife came at him with a knife first and was in a rage when he stabbed her.

Mitwalli asked for leniency during his sentencing hearing. But a judge told him he showed an "extreme indifference to human life."
