White Arabian Horse Found Abandoned in Vacant Lot

Police ID owner of horse found among trash & weeds of a vacant lot in Philly

UPDATE: On Thursday, the Pennsylvania SPCA identified the horse's owner as 23-year-old Claritza Lopez-Fuentes of N American Street and charged her with animal cruelty for failing to provide veterinary care.

The Pennsylvania SPCA is investigating the abandonment of a white “Arabian-type” horse that was found in a vacant lot Sunday.

According to George Bengal, director of humane law enforcement, the horse was found by a local resident in the weeds and trash of a vacant lot on the 3500 block of Ella Street.

Bengal says that the white horse was in bad condition and is now being treated at the SPCA headquarters. Bengal says that he is seeking the public’s help in identifying the horse’s owner.

“The horse was underweight and appeared to be malnourished. It also had a large infected wound beneath its right elbow,” Bengal said in a statement Wednesday.  “When our officers responded, no one came forward to claim the horse.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the SPCA at 215.426.6304, ext. 270.
