Four people are fighting for their lives after suspects fleeing police crashed into several vehicles in West Philadelphia Monday afternoon, according to officials.
Officials say the incident began during a narcotics investigation in Darby, Pennsylvania. Two suspects related to that investigation fled in a rental car leading to a wild chase, according to police.
During the chase, the suspects entered West Philadelphia and crashed into several moving and parked vehicles along Cedar Avenue as well as Webster and 53rd streets, police said. The two suspects then got out of their vehicle and fled on foot, according to investigators.
Police say one of the suspects, identified as Michael Carthon of Philadelphia, was immediately taken into custody. The second suspect, identified as Eugene Patterson, also of Philadelphia, allegedly ran into a nearby Laundromat however and changed clothes before hopping onto a SEPTA bus. Witnesses who saw Patterson alerted police and he was apprehended, officials said.
At least four people, including a 28-year-old woman and 30-year-old man, were injured after the suspects crashed into their vehicles, police said. The victims are all in critical condition.
Carthon is charged with possession with intent to deliver and other related offenses. Patterson, who police say was driving during the chase, is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, driving without a license, possession with intent to deliver and other related offenses. Both men are in custody after failing to post bail.
