Toy Horse's Head Gets NJ Man Jail Time

Man jailed for "Godfather"-like stunt

A 61-year-old Wenonah, N.J. man found himself in Gloucester County Jail last Thursday after playing “Godfather.”

In an obvious reference to the famous film, the aptly named Robert Godman personally delivered a stuffed-toy horse’s head to state Sen. Steve Sweeney’s office. Godman’s “gift” arrived on Jan. 15, three days after Sweeney was sworn in as Senate president. The senator was filling in as governor for Jon Corzine who was in Europe, reported the NJ.com.

Sweeney aide Michael Coryell was in the middle of all the confusion.

“He said ‘I have a package for Sen. Sweeney to give to Gov. Christie,’” said Coryell, according to NJ.com. “He never saw the senator. The senator doesn’t know him. There was no note.”

Even after a staff member found the head of a toy horse in the box it struck a chord of enough fear for authorities to be notified. The package caused quite a stir when the Camden County bomb squad was called to investigate its contents.

“We didn’t feel it was very funny. It was shocking,” Coryell said to NJ.com.

Godman’s bail is set for $25,000 and he will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
