Welcome Home Mr. Vice President

Return Day 2008 is set to take place today and newly elected Vice President, Joe Biden, will be returning to his home state for the big event.

"We knew how important Return Day is to Sen. Biden, and we were confident that he would be here with us on Return Day no matter what, win or lose," said Debra Jones, corresponding secretary for the Return Day Committee.

You can see a parade stacked with the winning and losing candidates from Election Day 2008 rolling down the streets of Georgetown in open horse drawn carriages and antique automobiles.

Parade takeoff will be at Georgetown Middle School and head east on Market St. around The Historic Circle, bust a move at Grace United Methodist Church, west on Pine St. circling back to the middle school.

Thursday, November 6 at 1:30 pm is when the “fun-tivities” are set to get under way.

Shuttles will be running from 11 am to 6 pm to pick Delawareans from the following parking areas: Delaware Technical and Community College, the Georgetown Square Shopping Center and the Sports at the Beach complex.

There are some security changes that you should be aware of if you are planning on going to the event, according to Return Day Public Information Officers:

  • If you’re planning to watch the parade from The Circle you will have to go through metal detectors to get inside. Also, any personal items, such as your purse, could be inspected.
  • Leave your backpacks, coolers, large bags and pets at home; they’re not permitted. You can bring lawn chairs, but stay by your seat; if you leave your chair unattended it will be taken away.

Keep in mind; you should factor in some extra time to make-up for going through the new security checks.
