Wanted: 2 Firefighters for Rent-Free, Live-in Program

Upper Gwynedd Fire Department is seeking two firefighters to be part of its 4-member Live-In program.

The program, started in 2011, is designed to allow firefighters to live rent-free in a home next to the firehouse on Garfield Avenue in West Point, Upper Gwynedd.

"This program is perfect for firefighters looking to get out on their own and save a little bit of money or for college students looking to board off campus," said UGFD Chief Chris Sharkey.

Upper Gwynedd Fire is located within 15 miles of Gwynedd Mercy University, Temple University Ambler, DeSales University Lansdale, Delaware Valley College and Montgomery County Community College.

"In conjunction with our newly-formed Stipend Program, the department feels that its a effective way to help young adults or college students. While in return, it assists the department in adequately staffing front-line firefighting apparatus and aids in lowering the response times to the residents and business of our Township and those we provide mutual aid to," Sharkey said.
