Walt Whitman Bridge Work Completed

If you are planning to travel between Philadelphia and New Jersey in the overnight hours, the Walt Whitman work is done and you don't have to worry about another overnight closure.

The bridge, which connects South Jersey with Philly was closed for several hours early Wednesday to install equipment for an ongoing construction project, according to the Delaware River Port Authority.

There was a possibility that the work would require closure a second night, but it did not.

Three gantry cranes needed for a project to give the bridge a new deck over the next two to three years were all put in place.

"This is the largest capital project for any DRPA Bridge and is part of the DRPA’s 5 year $1 billion capital improvement program," said DRPA CEO John Matheussen.
