Walnut Street Road Reconstruction

PennDOT’s $12.1M pavement improvement project spreads from West Philly to Old City

Drivers may have noticed that some streets in Center City were closed due to road construction for the last few weeks.

On Friday, The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that lane restrictions are scheduled on Walnut Street for paving operations starting next week.

From Monday to Friday (Aug. 20 to 24), one lane will be closed from Walnut Street & Cobbs Creek Parkway to Walnut & 22nd Streets. The lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for readjusting manhole and storm sewer covers.

Also from Monday to Friday, one lane will be closed from Walnut & 45th Streets to Walnut & Front Streets. This lane will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for resurfacing.

This is all part of PennDOT’s $12.1 million pavement improvement project. The project will repair and resurface 27 miles of worn roadways in Philadelphia.

Worcester, Montgomery County’s Allen A. Myers is the general contractor behind the project.

The road construction is expected to be completed by August of next year.
