Waking Up to SEPTA Delays

An underground transformer is disrupting travel this morning.

A fire at an underground transformer is disrupting travel for commuters heading into downtown Philadelphia.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. Tuesday beneath 33rd and Market streets in West Philadelphia. Officials say a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority maintenance worker was hospitalized with burns but the fire was soon under control.

The blaze knocked out power to several rail lines. Power has been restored to the Market-Frankford subway line but some underground trolley lines are still affected. SEPTA is using shuttle buses on the affected lines.
