Vigil Held for Slain Teen

Friends and family say the 17-year-old planned on attending his school's prom this weekend.

A vigil was held tonight for a local teen.

Savon Traub,17, was shot and killed Monday night around 11:30 p.m. on the 6400 block of Glenmore Avenue in Elmwood. Police have no motive so far in the teen’s death and no arrests have been made.

Traub was a senior at Bartram High School and was planning on going to the prom this weekend. He was killed only a block away from his home.

“We heard the gunshots,” said Adriane Ross, a family friend. “There were maybe about six or eight. As we heard the gunshots we looked down the street and he was lying on the ground.”

Traub’s vigil took place tonight at 7 p.m., at the scene of his death. Police continue to investigate.

Traub’s death is one of several violent incidents that took place last night in Philadelphia. Shortly before 11 p.m., a 41-year-old man was shot and killed on the 4600 block of North 16th street in the Logan section of the city. Police say the man was sitting on a porch when the shooting occurred. The victim’s female friend was struck once in the leg. She is currently in stable condition. No arrests have been made in that incident.

A third shooting occurred on 20th and Poplar streets in Fairmount also around 11:30 p.m. Police say a 30-year-old man was shot four times in the chest and torso. The man is currently in stable condition. No arrests have been made in the incident.

Traub is the 144th person killed in Philadelphia this year, according to police. Last year at this time, 130 people were killed in the city. Police also say reported shootings have increased 14.5 % since last year and they've solved 71% of the murders this year.

"Great men and women of the department are doing good work and they're solving the crimes," said Philadelphia Chief of Staff Everett Gillison. "The problem still is that they're occurring. We just have to get people to say enough is enough."

Police say 120 new officers will be on the street by the end of July. If you have any information on local crime, you may text or send pictures to iwatchphiladelphia.com.
