Victim, Suspect Dead After Apparent Robbery Attempt

A victim and a suspect are both dead after an attempted robbery this morning.

Around 9:50 a.m., a man in his mid-50s was getting out of his car in the 5400 block of N. Third Street in Olney when a suspect either robbed or attempted to rob him. The victim was stabbed twice in the upper chest.

He stumbled to the 300 block of Tabor Road, but a medic pronounced him dead at 10:10 a.m.

The suspect jumped onto a bicycle and fled five to six blocks. An eyewitness followed him to 5800 Mascher St., where he went into the basement of a home.

The witness called 911 and directed the authorities to the suspect's location. When police arrived, they found the suspect holding a butcher knife. He was ordered to drop the knife, but instead he jumped toward police, who fired. The suspect died on the scene.

The officers were not injured.
