Vermont Rescuers Save New Jersey Hikers Who Called 911 After Getting Stuck in Deep Snow

Authorities expected two New Jersey residents to be OK after they got stranded in deep snow while hiking in Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest.

Vermont State Police said 34-year-old Nikolas Brown called 911 on Teusday evening around 6 to report that he and his friend, 28-year-old Alan Parkell, were stranded on the Long Trail off Mad Tom Notch Road in Peru, Vermont. The men, both from Pennsville, New Jersey, were stuck in waist-deep snow and unable to continue hiking.

Brown was able to provide GPS coordinates of their location, and a team of seven rescuers from several agencies including State Police Search and Rescue Team and wardens of the Vermont State Fish and Game Department and Londonderry found the hikers and helped them out of the woods.

Neither hiker was injured.
