Upper Darby Teachers Reinstated

Teachers in the Upper Darby School District have been reinstated after a personnel report was passed during a meeting on Tuesday.

The District announced earlier this year that it would have to cut foreign language and technology classes due to lack of funding. The District also planned to cut specialized teachers in art, music and physical education in order to balance its budget.

In June however, several state representatives worked together to successfully restore $2.726 million for the District.

The final budget agreement restored the $100 Million Accountability Block Grant program for schools. The District announced that it would restore most of the specialized classes due to the additional funding. The House passed the 2012-13 state budget bill on June 28 while the Senate did the same on June 29, sending it to Governor Corbett for his signature.

The district held a meeting on Tuesday in which 45 teachers who were placed on temporary leave or demoted were reinstated, according to the Delaware County Times. These teachers included all of the art and music teachers and two librarians. The Times also reports a plan to reduce 13 supervisory positions to four was approved as well.
