One of Upper Darby’s finest was honored on Thursday at the Delaware County Courthouse.
Upper Darby Police Officer Raymond Blohm received the Federal Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery. The award honors exceptional acts of bravery in the line of duty by law enforcement officers. Back in May 2010, Officer Blohm chased after a suspect despite being shot several times.
“In the face of extreme danger, Officer Blohm demonstrated the courage, extraordinary decisiveness and presence of mind that characterize truly great law enforcement officers,” said United States Attorney Zane David Memeger who presented Officer Blohm the award. “Without concern for his own personal safety, Officer Blohm made our community safer by removing a dangerous individual from the streets, and we are privileged to have him among the ranks of the Southeastern Pennsylvania law enforcement community.”
“I am very honored and humbled to be chosen for this award,” said Officer Blohm. Blohm thanked his wife and family for the support. He also dedicated the award to Upper Darby Police Officer Dennis McNamara, who was killed in the line of duty back on January 30, 2002.
The Badge of Bravery award was established back in 2008 after congress passed the Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery Act. Blohm is the first person in Pennsylvania to receive the honor.
