Unemployed Mom Gets Job Opportunity, Stylish Makeover for Christmas

It was a Christmas makeover in more ways than one for a Delaware County woman. Not only did the single mom get a glamorous new look but also an exciting new opportunity for the new year and beyond.

Santa Claus joined forces with Style Me Hired, an organization that provides makeovers and job opportunities to unemployed women in the area. The latest winner is 47-year-old Nanette Garvey, a single mother of five who recently lost her job.

Santa and a makeover team surprised Nanette Sunday morning, whisking her away on Santa’s fire truck to the Marc Voci Salon in Folsom. The makeover team gave her a stylish new haircut, hair color, makeup and outfit.

“I was flooded with calls. This one struck me - she's a single mom with five children. I know she must be going through a lot. I thought let's get her in do what we do. Our brand is happiness, “ said Voci.

But the greatest gift of the day came in the form of the letter which Santa read out loud: a brand new job opportunity from EDSI, a consulting services company.

Santa then drove Nanette back to her home in Folsom where they surprised her five children with Christmas presents.

“It's hard but I have a lot of family and friends that support me and are there for me no matter what. I teach my kids that you will always family and friends. Someone will always be there for you,” said Garvey.

While it’s not a guarantee that Nanette will get the job, it’s a major opportunity for the Folsom native and one that we’re confident she’ll take full advantage of. Most importantly, it's a Holiday memory that Nanette and her family will never forget. Credit: Anita Coppens
