2 Officers Run Down in North Philly

Suspect taken into custody a short time later

Two Philadelphia Highway Patrol officers were hurt after being run down during a pursuit.

The incident happened at 16th and Oxford Streets just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The officers were chasing the man, who was suspected of driving a stolen green Isuzu SUV. But when they attempted to take him into custody, the suspect allegedly drove into the officers and took off, police said.

Police say the patrolmen opened fire on the man, hitting him in the leg.

Both officers were taken to Temple University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

The suspect was taken into custody a short time later at 25th and Arlington Streets, police said. He was also taken to Temple for treatment.
