Two Local Sears Stores Set to Close

The stores in Upper Darby and Pottstown are among 79 the company announced it would be closing Thursday

Sears Holdings Corp. on Thursday put out a list of 79 of the 100 to 120 Sears and Kmart stores it announced it would close in the wake of weak holiday sales. Two Philadelphia-area stores were included on the list:

  • Sears on 150 S. 69th Street in Upper Darby, Pa.
  • Sears on 351 W. Schuylkill Rd in Pottstown, Pa.

The closings are the latest and most visible in a long series of moves to try to fix a retailer that has struggled with falling sales and shabby stores.

In an internal memo Tuesday to employees, CEO and President Lou D'Ambrosio said that the retailer had not "generated the results we were seeking during the holiday."

The company has more than 4,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada. To see the full list of 79 store closures, click here.
