Twins Struck by Car on the Road to Recovery

According to neighbors both children were sitting on their bikes on a sidewalk when a car hit them

Two 11-year-old siblings continue to recover after being struck by a car in North Philadelphia Saturday.

It happened around 4 p.m. on the 900 block of Birch Street. According to neighbors the 58-year-old driver of an SUV hit a parked car which hit the two children who were sitting on their bikes on the sidewalk.

Police say neighbors pulled the suspect from the car, assaulted him and held him until police arrived. The man was transported to Temple University Hospital with minor injuries.

The brother and sister, who are twins, were transported to St. Christopher’s Hospital. The boy, Eduardo Sanchez, suffered head and ankle injuries. The girl suffered head injuries and a broken leg, according to her father Steve Feliciano.

NBC10 spoke with Eduardo on Monday as he continues to recover.

"The bottom of my leg really hurts," said Eduardo.

While the boy was released from the hospital on Sunday, he was in so much pain that his mother took him back to the hospital Monday afternoon. He returned home after doctors checked him out. Eduardo's sister underwent surgery on her thigh and remains hospitalized in fair condition.

"She's in a lot of pain," said Jessica Sanchez, the mother of the twins. "She can't move at all."

No charges have been filed yet against the driver.
