A defense attorney is calling the shooting death of a man at a remote hunting cabin in southwestern Pennsylvania last year "a case of love, estrangement, friendship and betrayal."
Public defender Harry Cancelmi, who represents 33-year-old Jason Roe of Daisytown, told jurors in Tuesday's opening statements in Greene County Court that "This is not a murder case."
Roe and his 41-year-old wife, Lana, are charged with criminal homicide in the August 2012 shotgun slaying of 38-year-old Cordele Patterson of Grindstone in Wayne Township.
Jason Roe has said he acted in self-defense in the shooting in which his wife was wounded. He is also charged in a brief escape from the county prison in June.
Lana Roe's attorney, Michael Bigley, deferred his opening statement until defense attorneys begin their case.
