Trenton Struggles to Open Public Pools

Two pools have re-opened and three remain closed because of safety concerns

Two Trenton public pools are open and three are closed as of Thursday evening. On day 8 of a heat wave, residents say they want to go swimming.

"This is crazy, it's hot. People want to go to the pool," said Niesha Johnson, Trenton.

The delayed opening for the summer season is due to safety concerns, Councilman George Muschal told NBC10's Monique Braxton.

Problems like overgrown poison ivy, a broken fence, and chlorine issues are causing that delay, said Muschal.

Trenton Mayor Tony F. Mack issued a release on Wednesday announcing that Cooper and Roberto Clemente pools were open for use.

There is no opening date set for the three remaining pools-- Hetzel, Calhoun and MLK.
