Thirty-seven million people will be traveling home for the holiday, American Automobile Association (AAA) said.
And, over at the Philadelphia International Airport this morning, Thanksgiving travelers got an early start.
Don’t worry about parking though. There are plenty of open spots available at the airport, according to the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA). For $20.00 a day you can park your vehicle in a secured garage a short walk (about a minute or two) away from the terminal. If you don’t mind a little adventure, you can park in a secured economy lot for $11.00 and hop on the complimentary shuttle bus to get to your desired terminal.
Also, if your picking someone up, you can find short term parking on the ground level (across from the terminal baggage claim areas) costing you $3.00 for the first 30-minutes.
“The Thanksgiving holiday is the busiest travel time of the year. If you’re flying out of town for the holidays, the last thing you need is the hassle and headache of worrying about where to park—and whether your car will be safe,” said Vince Fenerty of the Philadelphia Parking Authority.
With gas about two bucks a gallon, a car is the clear choice of travel for most people headed somewhere over 50-miles for the holiday, according to AAA.
People will also be riding the rails from 30th street station. Last year, over 128,000 passengers jumped on a train to get home; that's a 65 percent increase over an average day, said Amtrak spokesperson, Tracy Connell.
