Train Cars Hauling Sand Derail in Pennsylvania

Ten freight cars hauling sand have derailed in a southwestern Pennsylvania town, closing down nearby roads.

Uniontown police sidy there were minor injuries reported in the derailment about 7:40 a.m. Thursday, but offered no details.

Officials with Carload Express Inc., of Oakmont, confirmed some cars on one of their Southwestern Pennsylvania Railroad trains derailed. A company official who refused to give his name said the train had 40 cars.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the problem. The railroad had crews and investigators at the scene.

Uniontown is about 40 miles south of Pittsburgh.
