Some drivers were trapped in their cars for hours after a deadly accident on Interstate 95 Thursday afternoon in Bensalem. A person was killed and several others hurt in a crash involving multiple trucks and vehicles along Interstate 95 northbound in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

The six-car crash happened around 1:15 p.m. Thursday just south of the Street Road exit in Bensalem, Pennsylvania State Police said.

A tractor-trailer hauling garbage plowed through the guardrail in the grassy median and flipped onto its side. The load was spilled as a result.

Another tractor-trailer and four passenger vehicles -- a Nissan Murano, an Infiniti 130, a Honda Accord and a Nissan Altima -- were also involved in what police are calling a chain-reaction crash. The engine of the big rig was destroyed and debris was strewn all over the roadway.

State police said one person was killed, they later identified the victim as Paul Mirys, 58, of Trenton, N.J.  Several other people were injured.

"God's looking out for me, no luck in this house," said crash survivor Thomas Lewis.

The highway was shut down in the northbound direction for nearly nine hours snarling traffic for commuters trying to make their way home.

"It was backed up SO far that people were standing outside of their cars, like trying to look and see where, what's going on," said Jessica Glowania who was stuck in the traffic.

The crash is under investigation. Possible criminal charges may be filed upon completion of the investigation.
