It's Official: Tornado Hit Monmouth Co.

Residents thought they saw a tornado on Tuesday and it's been confirmed, they did indeed.

Some residents of Monmouth County thought they saw a tornado Tuesday afternoon.

On Thursday, the National Weather Service said they were right.

The Weather Service confirmed that a small twister touched down Tuesday afternoon along Route 33 in Millstone Township. It stayed on the ground for about half a mile with a path 50 yards wide.

No one was injured and no homes were damaged, but the tornado brought down some trees and numerous tree branches.

NWS meteorologist Kristin Kline said the damage was consistent with an EF Zero tornado, the weakest classification.

It was the first confirmed tornado touchdown in New Jersey this year. Weather experts say tornadoes are rare in New Jersey because of its temperate climate.
