Toddler Finds Razor Blade Inside Toy Train Set

A local woman says the opening of an early birthday present nearly turned deadly for a young boy after a razor blade was found inside a toy train set.

Julianne Antell of Glenolden, Pa. tells NBC10 she bought two “Fun Train Express” train sets back on July 23 at the Toys R Us Express in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The train sets were gifts for her 4-year-old daughter as well as Johnny Ferri, the 1-year-old son of her good friend Lisa.

“The first set was opened Saturday by my daughter and godson and all was fine,” Antell said.

On Sunday, Antell decided to let Johnny open his present while she was babysitting him at her house. Antell says her daughter, Johnny’s 1-month old brother as well as the 5-year-old child of her neighbor were all inside the home as well. After he opened his gift, Antell says she noticed Johnny grabbing a strange object.

“Johnny grabbed something out of the box and started putting it in his mouth,” Antell said. “As he put it in his mouth I grabbed it immediately.”

What Johnny had was a small razor blade he found inside the box, according to Antell. Antell managed to remove it before the young boy was hurt.

The “Fun Train Express” train set is manufactured by the Toy2U Manufacturing Company in New Mandarin Plaza, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The industrial company listed on the toy is Junxing Toys in Shantou City, China.

Antell says she contacted the Toys R Us and even walked into the store to report what she found. According to Antell, representatives at the Toys R Us told her they were investigating. They also said they were unable to get in touch with the Hong Kong manufacturer.

According to Antell, a risk management specialist from Toys R Us sent her the following message regarding the incident:
