Thunderstorms Bring Floods, Traffic Jams, Plane Delays

Severe thunderstorms roared through the tri-state Friday afternoon, bringing flash floods and stalled traffic

Drivers going east toward the Jersey Shore are having a hard time getting anywhere, as the Walt Whitman Bridge had standstill traffic because of flooding on the Blackhorse Pike, Route 130 and other highways in the area.

Residents and business owners of Haddon Heights, N.J., sent photos of flooded streets.

Roads in Delaware County were also flooded, as water came up to some residents’ front doors on Winoa Avenue in Holmes, Pa. Prospect Park and Norwood had flash floods as well.

Departing flights were delayed by an average of 30-40 minutes, but not yet canceled, at Philadelphia International Airport as of 4:45 p.m.

There are severe thunderstorm warnings in Lehigh Valley and a flood warning in Philadelphia.

The rain and flash floods should continue until after 11 p.m. Friday, but Saturday and Sunday will be dry and beautiful with highs in the low 90s.
