Thousands of Bikers Expected in ABATE Toy Run

Congressman saved annual event

After the air was almost let out of its tires, the Delaware Valley Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education’s 31st annual toy run is set to launch at noon Sunday.

Thousands of motorcycle riders were expected at the event in which the bikers deliver toys they’ve collected for patients at Children’s Hospital.

CHOP almost put the brakes on the event, saying it caused too much traffic and there were too many toys.

Rep. Bob Brady stepped in to negotiate a compromise. A new route will ease traffic at CHOP. Drexel University students will collect the toys at Citizens Bank Park and use them for their school’s annual toy drive.

A smaller group of bikers will take toys to patients at CHOP.
