Thieves Steal From Moviegoers Inside Theaters

Police are on the hunt for a trio of thieves who they say stole from customers at two New Jersey movie theaters. According to investigators, the thieves targeted two theaters in Marlton and Voorhees.

“I just don’t know how they did it without me knowing where” said Cheryl Tomasetti. “They are just fast.”

Tomasetti, 62, says she was watching a 3-D movie at the AMC 8 Theater on Route 73 in Marlton on Tuesday around 3:15 p.m. when the thieves struck.

“From the time they entered and left it was approximately three or four minutes,” said Evesham Police Lieutenant Joseph Friel. ““They’ll prey usually on females who leave their purses unattended or underneath their chair, leave them wide open.”

Police say one suspect bought a ticket and allowed two other accomplices in through the side door. They then allegedly stole Tomasetti’s wallet from her pocketbook while her eyes were glued to the screen.

“The bank called me and said people used my credit card several times already,” Tomasetti said. “That fast! I feel violated. All I can say to anybody is keep everything close.”

Police say the same trio stole at least 11 pocketbooks or wallets from moviegoers at Rave 16 in Voorhees, dating back to September of 2012. They allegedly used the stolen money at several stores, including a gas station, liquor store and TV store.

Police say the group has stolen thousands of dollars in credit cards and fraudulent purchases.

If you have any information on their identities, please call the Evesham Police Department.
