The Holiday Homecoming a Messy One

Poor weather causing delays in the skies

The holiday homecoming on busiest travel day of the year hit a road bump as stormy weather rolled into the area Sunday.

Drivers were moving slowly on the area roads, but despite a few backups earlier in the day there were no serious issues. The same was true for the rails, but the real problem was in the skies.

Travelers arriving at Philadelphia International Airport were greeted with delays and cancellations. The rain, wind and poor visibility gripping the over two-thirds of the country caused a chain reaction affecting flights from Boston to North Carolina.

Catherine Robertson and her son's hockey team were here for a tournament. Now their patience is skating on thin ice as they think of a plan B to get back to Toronto.

“We’re trying to get on another flight into Buffalo and then on a flight from Buffalo to Toronto,” said Robertson.

Airport officials say flights are running at least three hours behind schedule Sunday night.
