A Temple University junior was killed in a shooting at an off-campus apartment late Saturday night, the university said.

The student — identified Sunday by university officials as 21-year-old Daniel Duignam — was shot three times just after 9 p.m. Saturday in his apartment at 17th and Diamond streets in North Philadelphia, police said.

Duignam suffered gunshot wounds to the stomach, right arm and face, police said. Paramedics pronounced him dead inside the apartment.

Duignam was a third-year business major from Tatamy, Pennsylvania, in Northampton County. He was studying risk management and insurance, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The current mayor of Tatamy also confirmed Duignam is the grandson of former Tatamy mayor Luke Duignam.

A Temple spokesman said investigators don't believe the shooting was a random act. Romona Scott, a block captain, who lives in the building next door, told NBC10 she didn't hear anything suspicious the night of Duignam's death.

"There's a bunch of bars," she said. "They didn't break in. Whoever it was had to come in with him or he had to know him."

Neighbors say there was never much activity, such as parties or many visitors, in Duignam's building. Temple police will increase patrols in the area as a precaution, they said.
