Temple Exceeds Fundraising Goals with $79M in Annual Donations

Temple University didn't break any records after three straight years of chart-busting fundraising, but the college still has a number of reasons to celebrate — 79 million to be exact.

The university announced Tuesday it exceeded its $75 million fundraising goal by pulling in $79 million in the fiscal year that ended on June 30.

The total number of donors also increased by nearly 5,000, with 41,626 individuals donating compared to 36,643 in the 2015 fiscal year. More than 20,400 of those donors were Temple alumni, meaning the school also surpassed its 20,000 alumni donor goal.

“That’s critically important, we secure over 50 percent of our money from our alumni,” said Temple’s Vice President for Institutional Advancement Jim Dicker. “There’s no question that an indication of the health of the university. It’s really, really critical.”

The North Philadelphia university hit an all-time fundraising high last year with $84.2 million in total donations. That figure, however, was bolstered by a major outlier — a one-time donation of $25 million from the late Lewis Katz to fund its medical school, the largest single donation ever to the university.
