Teen Robber Targets Delivery Drivers: Cops

A 16-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly robbing one delivery driver and trying to rob two others in New Castle.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy after the teen allegedly robbed one food delivery driver and tried to rob two others in New Castle County.

Investigators say the first incident happened last Wednesday around 3 p.m. A 34-year-old driver at a local pizza restaurant told police that he arrived at a vacant home on Three Rivers Drive in Forest Knoll.

As he walked towards the front door, police say he was approached by a teen armed with a handgun. The delivery driver immediately fled the area and was unharmed.

On Friday, 12:53 p.m., police responded to a robbery report in Garfield Park. A 42-year-old driver for a local restaurant told police that she was robbed at gunpoint after approaching a vacant home on Karlyn Drive. Police say she was approached by the teen who was once again armed with handgun. The woman handed the teen an undisclosed amount of cash before driving away.

Less than an hour later police responded to the same home after a 70-year-old pizza delivery driver reported an attempted robbery. The driver told police that when he arrived at the house, he saw the teen jump over a fence in the backyard and enter the side door. Investigators say the teen then met the driver at the door.

The driver claims the teen did not have any money for the delivery and closed the door. Moments later, police say the teen opened the door again and then went back inside after the driver asked him for the money a second time. At that point, the delivery driver told police that he felt he was going to be robbed and left the area.

Police claim that evidence was collected at the scene that linked the teen to the crime. Police then issued and executed a search warrant at the teen’s home where police found a pistol hidden in his bedroom which matched the description of the gun used in the robbery. Detectives also confirmed the teen’s involvement in the attempted robbery on Wednesday.

The boy was arrested and charged with first degree robbery and two counts of attempted robbery. He was committed to the New Castle County Juvenile Detention Center after failing to post $75,000 secured bail.
