Teen Killed at Bus Stop: Mistaken Identity?

The gunman may have thought Kareem, 14, was someone else

The guy who shot Kareem Haynes to death at a Philadelphia bus stop may have mistaken the teenager for someone else.

Haynes' mom told The Philadelphia Inquirer that detectives said the shooter -- who neighbors say goes by the name "Gotti" -- may have thought her 14-year old son was another boy the gunman had confronted earlier.

Haynes was shot Tuesday afternoon as he was sitting on a fence, talking to two girls at a bus stop on 29th Street. The gunman and another man rode up on bicycles. The gunman confronted Haynes and then shot him in the chest, according to police. One of the girls ran back to his house, "She was like, 'Barbara, you son was shot,' " the mom told the paper. Barbara Haynes said by the time she got to the scene, police had already taken her son to the hospital where he died.

The shooting happened on the same day Philadelphia students went back to school.

Haynes, who was set to start his freshman year at Roxborough High School, didn't go to school that day. His dad said he didn't have his uniform yet, but was supposed to get it that night.
