Teen Boy Shot by Police in Carroll Park Section of Philadelphia

A teenager was shot by police in the Carroll Park section of the city, according to investigators.

Police say they received a 911 call Sunday night reporting a man walking on the 5600 block of Media Avenue with a gun in his hand.

Two police officers arrived at the scene around 9 p.m. and spotted the suspect, who investigators say was a 17-year-old boy armed with a gun.

The teen allegedly fled the scene on foot when officers approached him. Police claim the teen then turned around and pointed a gun at one of the officers.

Both officers opened fire, striking the teen in the upper torso at least once. The boy was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Police have not yet revealed the teen's condition but say he is currently undergoing surgery.

The two officers were not hurt during the incident. Police also say they recovered the teen's alleged weapon from the scene.
