Teen Arrested for Hit-and-Run Death of Boy

17-year-old charged with hitting boy with car, dragging him for blocks

Delaware police arrested a 17-year-old girl for allegedly hitting a 9-year-old Wilmington boy with her car, dragging him for five blocks, and leaving him for dead.

Latika Wright, of the 900 block of East 27th Street, was arrested Wednesday on charges of felony vehicular homicide, felony leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, failure to report a collision resulting in death or injury, and driving without a license.

Nine-year-old Tommy White Jr. was riding his electric scooter 3 p.m. Jan. 9 near 25th and Jessup Streets in Wilmington when he was struck by a car and then dragged for five blocks before the driver stopped the car and then ran from the scene of the crime.

Witnesses said residents tried to lift the car off the 2nd grader. The young boy had severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wright will be arraigned in family court.
