Taylor Swift Donates $70K in Books to Hometown Library

    Taylor Swift Donates $70K in Books to Hometown Library

    Superstar, singer, beauty -- there are many words that could be used to describe Wyomissing-native Taylor Swift, but philanthropist is the word most important to residents of Reading.

    Swift recently donated 6,000 books to the Reading Public Library. All of which will be available for borrowing starting on Saturday, October 14, reports the Reading Eagle.

    The books, worth $68,000, have been divided between all of the library’s branches.

    “I think it’s amazing she did this for her community,” 11-year-old Swift fan Emily Rankin tells the Reading Eagle.

    All of the books are brand-new and geared towards children and teens, according to the Eagle.

    Library staff in Berks County are hoping that Swift’s popularity will motivate young people to read more.

    “She adds the coolness factor to reading,” Library assistant director Bronwen Gamble tells the paper.

    Speaking of cool, Swift was recently names Billboard’s “Woman of the Year” for 2012.
