Man Beaten to Death in Fight Outside Ballpark

A 22-year-old man was assaulted and killed in a parking lot near Citizens Park while the Phillies played the Cardinals Saturday.

Police said the trouble started at about 7 p.m., when a group from a bachelor party got into a fight with other patrons at McFaddens Restaurant in the Citizens Bank Park complex.

The groups were told to leave the bar and the dispute, which involved as many as 30 people, moved outside to a parking lot near the ballpark.  It was so bad that security called the cops in to break things up, said the Phillies.

But it was too late for David Sale of Lansdale, who was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead.

The assault happened in Lot M at 7th Street and Pattison Avenue in South Philly, said authorities.

Another man involved in the fight was taken to Methodist Hospital with injuries, according to officials.
