Dad Hosts Boozy ‘Sweet 16' Party at His House That Lands Teen in Hospital: DA

Things aren’t so “sweet” for a suburban Philadelphia man who faces charges in connection with a “Sweet 16” party at his home that allegedly left one juvenile in the hospital with alcohol poisoning.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman announced Wednesday that 59-year-old Arthur Blumenthal of Lafayette Hill, Pa. is charged with 43 counts of corruption of minors, one count of reckless endangerment and 61 counts of furnishing alcohol to minors.

Whitemarsh Township police officers responding to a report of an intoxicated person say they arrived at Blumenthal's home March 21 and found an underage boy lying on the lawn and vomiting. He was taken to Chestnut Hill Hospital and treated for an alcohol overdose.

Upon entering the home, officers said they discovered a “Sweet 16” party with more than 60 juveniles and a large number of empty and full beer cans in the basement of Blumenthal’s home.

Blumenthal has a preliminary hearing set for May 7, according to court records.
