Suspect in Center City Sex Assault Surrenders

Suspect caught after using victim's ATM card

The man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Center City on Tuesday has surrendered to police.

Scranton police say 46-year-old Elvin Tate turned himself into authorities Saturday in connection with the June 8th sexual assault and robbery of a 24-year-old woman near 15th and Vine Streets.

Police say the woman asked Tate to help her find her roommate around 2:30 a.m. At some point Tate pulled out a knife, sexually assaulted and robbed the woman, investigators say.

The woman identified Tate after he was caught on surveillance video using her ATM card.

Tate is in police custody and will be charged with robbery and aggravated indecent assault.
