Supporting Our Schools: Why It Matters to Teachers and Students

Many teachers give their time and money to support their students, which often means paying for school supplies.

They pay for pencils, paper, rulers, glue sticks and more to make sure that children can learn and grow.

NBC10 and Telemundo 62 are providing students and teachers with the supplies they need to foster a learning environment at school.

From July 12 through August 18, you can visit any Raymour & Flanigan store to drop off school supplies that will be donated to local students through Boys and Girls Clubs, Cradles to Crayons and the United Way.

Here are some examples of who the supplies will benefit:

Art Room Basic Needs

Ms. M. teaches art for K-8 students at John Welsh Elementary School in Philly. She wants to help her students express themselves through art, but the supplies are expensive.

"My students have a passion for learning but have many obstacles to overcome both at home and in their neighborhood,” Ms. M. wrote on DonorsChoose.org.

She included colored pencils, markers, rulers and #2 pencils on her wish list.

"Every day we try to create an environment where they feel safe to explore their ideas and creativity,” Ms. M. wrote.

Let’s Get This School Year Started

Mrs. Graham teaches grades 3-5 at Paul L Dunbar Elementary School in Philly. She wants to provide her students with the basic school supplies they need to get through the year.

"My students are an amazing group of students who face a number of daily challenges. They come to school each day ready to learn and excited to try new things and take risks,” Mrs. Graham wrote on DonorsChoose.org.

She added notebooks, pencil sharpeners, seat cushions, disinfecting wipes, tissues, tape and hand sanitizer to her wish list.

"Despite the challenges, they work hard to be their best. This project will help support them in those efforts,” she wrote.

Classroom Rug – a Place to Bond & Grow

Mrs. L. teaches grades 3-5 at George W Childs Elementary School in Philly. She wants to get a classroom rug for her students to gather in the morning, read books together and more.

“My students love sharing their experiences with each other, and with little practice, they take it upon themselves to make sure that everybody is heard and respected,” Mrs. L. wrote on DonorsChoose.org.
