NJ's Sunset Lake Closes Again

A month after it was reopened, Sunset Lake is closed again, thanks to high levels of bacteria in the water, according to NJ.com.

The bacteria found were of fecal coliform, which is usually found in animal or human feces, reports NBC40.

Melissa Hemple, director of the Bridgeton recreation department, told NJ.com that the water was unsafe for swimming after being tested. She also said the heat wave and thunderstorms could have been factors.

It is uncertain how long the lake will be closed. However, Cumberland County health officials said it could possibly reopen on Saturday, according to NBC40.

This is not the first time Sunset Lake has closed. In 2009, low funding for lifeguards shut down the lake. Also, in 2010, goose feces made bacteria levels increase resulting in the lake being closed, according to NJ.com.
