Sunoco Moving Philly, Tinicum Jobs to Newtown Square

Sunoco Inc. says it will be moving out of a Philadelphia high-rise and suburban office park to a new suburban site in two years.

A spokesman for the petroleum giant said Tuesday about 500 jobs will be consolidated into a single 200,000-square-foot property in Newtown Square, Delaware County, starting in 2016.

Spokesman Jeff Shields said 120 legal and administrative positions in a downtown Philadelphia high-rise, 340 jobs at the Sunoco's retail marketing operations in suburban Tinicum Township, and 50 other positions will be moving.

Shields said the new centralized location will make for an easier commute for many Sunoco employees.

A spokesman for Mayor Michael Nutter said the administration is disappointed by Sunoco's departure but understands the desire to consolidate.
