Students Raise Money to Save Our Lady of Lourdes Statue

The Students raised over $1,000 by collecting coins.

The freak earthquake that shook up much of the East Coast back in August may not have done any major damage, but it did affect one very important part of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center.

A 15-ton, 30-foot statue of the Virgin Mary that has stood on top of the Camden, N.J., hospital since the 1940’s was cracked and damaged during that earthquake.

Students at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Regional School wanted to do something to help fix the important statue which can usually be seen lit up at 185 feet above street level.

During December the students of the elementary school collected coins to help fund the cost of the repair which the hospital estimates at $100,000. The students have already raised over $1,000.

The students will present the money to Our Lady of Lourdes on January 30th.
