Strip Club Manager Convicted of Murder in Patron's Death

A Philadelphia strip club manager accused of wrongly beating an intoxicated patron to death has been convicted of third-degree murder.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports John Pettit, of Pennsauken, New Jersey, was also convicted Thursday of conspiracy and reckless endangerment in the October 2009 death of John Koons.

Pettit punched Koons in the head at Oasis Gentlemen's Club. The 31-year-old Secane man fell and was dragged out of the club by Pettit and other bouncers. Surveillance video shows Pettit then kicking Koons outside the club. Koons died several weeks later.

Defense attorney A. Charles Peruto Jr. had argued Pettit threw the punch in self-defense. A lawyer who worked with Peruto says Pettit will appeal.

Pettit's faces up to 40 years in prison for the murder conviction at his August sentencing.
