Stranger Pops Up in Car's Back Seat, Demands Cash, Police Say

A Delaware State Police statement said the 74-year-old driver and her 78-year-old husband didn't know when, how or where he got into their vehicle

Police say a Delaware couple reported they were driving home Wednesday night when a man suddenly sat up in their back seat and demanded they pull over.

A Delaware State Police statement said the 74-year-old driver and her 78-year-old husband didn't know when, how or where he got into their vehicle.

The couple said the man grabbed the husband and threatened to cut him with a knife if he didn't hand over cash. They say the man grabbed the woman's purse and a brief struggle ensued. The woman accelerated toward a nearby home and the couple jumped out of the car. Then they realized the back seat was empty.

The driver and her husband weren't physically harmed. The troopers say they are continuing to investigate the robbery.
