Stone Harbor Gets an Early Start on Memorial Day Weekend

Hope you’re ready for Memorial Day weekend down the Jersey Shore, because Stone Harbor is way ahead of you.

Stone Harbor held their “Opening of the Ocean” ceremony Thursday afternoon on the 95th Street beach. Officials, lifeguards and others made sure the ocean was ready once Memorial Day Weekend officially began on Friday.

Lifeguards guided Mayor Suzanne Walters out into the water. Once they were a good distance out, Walters symbolically placed a key into the ocean, officially opening the beach for the season.

Many Stone Harbor City Council members were also in the house but all the officials were possibly outdone by the shore town’s pillaging pirate mascot Captain Stone who was also on the beach.

Certified by the Clean Beaches Council as a “Blue Wave” beach, Stone Harbor offers visitors an environmentally-friendly vacation spot. But don’t forget your wetsuit -- the high for the day reached only 74 degrees so it could be a bit chilly out there.
