A man is accused of murdering his 6-year-old stepson inside a Southwest Philadelphia home.
Michael Williams, 39, is charged with murder and endangering the welfare of a child.
Williams initially told police his stepson, Travon Register, was playing outside Thursday around 4:45 p.m. when he went into his South Daggett Street home in Southwest Philadelphia and slipped on the kitchen floor, injuring his head. The boy's mother was at work at the time.
Williams said he put Register in bed upstairs and went outside to smoke a cigarette. He told police he found the boy gasping for air about 15 minutes later and moved him to another bedroom before returning downstairs.
Williams said he then found the boy unresponsive about 40 minutes later.
